South Florida legislators

For the 2017 legislative session we contacted each member of the delegation in Florida Weekly’s distribution area several times by phone and email to ask them to respond briefly to some basic questions about the upcoming session: our water problem, the rights of gun owners, sanctuary cities, marijuana, and education. We even sent them the questions in advance. Out of 25 lawmakers (17 house members and eight senators), only eight responded, and we thank them for making their voices heard. Then there were those who didn’t respond to our questions or declined to comment. Sad! They include Sen. Joe Negron, R-District 25; Sen. Denise Grimsley, R-District 26; Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto, R-District 27; Sen. Kevin J. Rader, D-District 29; Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-District 31; Rep. Ray Wesley Rodrigues, R-District 76; Rep. Heather Fitzenhagen, R-District 78; Rep. Byron Donalds, R-District 80; Rep. Joseph Abruzzo, D-District 81; Rep. MaryLynn “ML” Magar, R-District 82; Rep. Rick Roth, R-District 85; Rep. Matt Willhite, D-District 86; Rep. David Silvers, D-District 87; Rep. Al Jackquet, D-District 88; Rep. Bill Hager, R-District 89; Rep. Lori Berman, D-District 90; and Rep. Emily Slosberg, D-District 91.
